Antony Gormley Another Place Crosby Beach – Art sculpture installation by Cheshire Photographers
The winner of the Turner Prize in 1994, Antony Gormley created Another Place on Crosby beach in the Northwest of the UK, which Ashford Daly Photography had the privilege of photographically capturing as part of our Limited Edition ‘scapes‘ portfolio collection work and signed prints now on Limited release – more will be coming soon, including this print entitled ‘Out There’.
We were amazed at how the statues, all based on a tooling mould of Gormley himself, were quite haunting and eerie, whilst also futuristic – as Greg Daly would say “they’ve finally landed”…
Another Place consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometers of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea. Contractors spent three weeks lifting the figures into place and driving them into the beach on the-metre-high foundation piles.
The Another Place figures – each one weighing 650 kilos – are made from casts of the artist’s own body and are shown at different stages of rising out of the sand, all of them looking out to sea, staring at the horizon in silent expectation – a perfect portrait of art and nature in harmony.

The work is seen as a poetic response to the individual and universal sentiments associated with emigration – sadness at leaving, but the hope of a new future in another place.
