Any many newly engaged brides to be will know from local newspapers and bridal magazines, it’s Wedding Fair season across the UK – especially across the wedding venue regions of Cheshire, Manchester, the North West of England, Shropshire and Staffordshire and in or around London and the Home Counties, especially Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Surrey.
So, have you found and booked your dream wedding photographer yet?
We would like to ask, if not, why you might feel that is?
Were they able to chat with you and make suggestions; were they able to spend one on one time with you without being interrupted? Did they engage with you and your partner, and really understand what you were looking for? Were they interested or did they just ask for contact details and promise they would ‘get right back to you after the show’, but never have.
We know there are lots of photographers who show at these fairs every year. They do it because there is a ready audience of prospective wedding couples, a footfall, all trailing through looking for services and suppliers; many at a low or the lowest price as they need the volume, some at higher prices, but with no creativity, and some who might have reached your short list, but still you feel you might need to do a bit more research as something wasn’t quite right for you to book there and then on the day.
Or are you specifically searching for someone more local, someone who might actually have won professional awards for their documentary wedding photography, someone who is a professionally qualified photographer and member of a recognised photographic body or two, who is published and actually cares about their photography and importantly their clients and the wedding day coverage, making sure the special, emotional and candid bits are captured and presented wonderfully too – Wait a minute – That sounds like us!
Some photographers show every year at wedding fairs, without any change to their services or products or coverage or display stands. We know, becuase we go to them and do our research. Some are completely new to the show experience, some are good hobbyist photographers trying to break into full time wedding photography, some are older in their style offering, and yes some are more modern in their approach too. What a mix. What a decision for you!
Some show at certain wedding venues because that’s what they’ve always done, and, as it is easier for the wedding planner or co-ordinator at the wedding venue to just rebook and recharge the same people and suppliers year in year out, it therefore is providing them (the venue) with a ready commercial income stream.
Some ‘photographers’ are there because that’s the only show they can get a stand at, or they’ve been offered the table as someone else dropped out at short notice – they’re on a wait list – and as a newbie or part-timer, they will just take it and a ‘let’s see’ approach will develop.
Some show, as that’s what they’ve been told is the greatest way to promote themselves to the masses.
Whilst we appreciate there are many ways to attract a client audience, at Ashford Daly Photography we prefer to be quite selective, and very much more personal.
We prefer not to market to the masses, as this is not very special to you the client, and we do feel that every wedding should be very very special – hence why we adopt a bespoke approach, and we like to engage individually with prospective clients, newly proposed to brides, grooms who are there for moral or financial support, and really try to understand your needs and vision and offer advice, support and options.
We do challenge our own business marketing decisions every year, to ensure we are promoting to and attracting more of the right type of client we wish to work with - we don’t particularly want to be lumped into a bidding war with lots of other photographers across the country, just because they are offering something low priced at a show, nor do we feel that certain wedding shows and fairs are always the best way for all couples to ‘find the one’ - or indeed for us to get to know you and understand you.
A small selection of wedding fairs and shows over the last three years have also attracted some couples who think that their photography and other supplier services for their upcoming wedding can be aggressively bartered for – we turn off just so you know if people are like that with us – we’re honest people in our own right, and yes we do value our work - we don’t do hard sell, we will tell people if we have an offer running, but we don’t pester or mither people; we prefer to let our work speak for itself, and our personalities and connection with you and your wedding guests, shine brilliantly on the wedding day.
We do want our prospective clients to meet and talk to experienced photographers, who really do care about their wedding photography before during and after the big day, and that the photo coverage options we can offer to you, befits your requirements honestly and adequately, and to explain the value we will provide to you in understanding your needs professionally and expertly, providing coverage options for you, especially given the current economic climate.
We don’t have to be attending a bridal wedding fair to show you our special offer promotion, you’ll be glad to hear.
